New Membership Application

Beth Chayim Chadashim, “House of New Life”- founded in 1972 as the world’s first synagogue for lesbian and gay men, began with a small group of Los Angeles Jews who dreamed of celebrating their heritage, creating community and worshipping in a safe sacred space. Today, as a proud Reform congregation, we continue to affirm the vision of our founders, that all people are created B’tzelem Elohim - in God’s image - through our active commitment and joint belief in BCC’s mission. There are numerous ways to help sustain the well-being of BCC, now and into the future.  Membership is one important foundation that ensures BCC continues to serve our community and generations to come. The lay leadership, clergy and staff are honored to officially welcome you as a BCC member.

Please fill out and submit the New Member Application below. Our membership committee is happy to answer any questions you might have. One of our lay leaders will reach out to you to discuss your financial commitment. We're proud of our members' financial commitment to sustaining our Synagogue, as well as of BCC's value of inclusivity, regardless of one's financial abilities. After filling out and submitting your application, the BCC Board of Directors will review your application.

You'll be officially welcomed into the congregation at a Shabbat service and by an announcement in our weekly congregational email (unless you prefer we do not publicize your name). Our clergy, Rabbi Jillian Cameron and Cantor Juval Porat, will reach out to you to get acquainted soon after you become a member of BCC.

Reciting the Mourner’s Kaddish and attending Yizkor (Memorial) services are opportunities to remember loved ones who have died. Please list the anniversaries of death of anyone whom you would like to remember annually below.  Please then indicate whether you would like the Yahrzeit to be observed on the Gregorian/English Calendar or the Hebrew calendar. You will be notified via email when your loved one will be remembered at BCC Shabbat Services You will be notified via email when your loved one will be remembered at BCC Shabbat Services.

Getting Involved at BCC

Below is a listing of the various committees and regular activity groups at BCC, all of which invite your participation, as well as a listing of areas in which we need volunteers. Please call or email our Office Manager, Erin Katz, if you have any questions about getting involved. Some of the rewards of participating in BCC's historical narrative are fond friendships and knowing that one has contributed to the building of a resilient LGBTQ+ Jewish community.

Please let us know what interest group(s) (Havurah) you might be interested in.
